When I first met Dr. C, I was a sophomore in my third semester of college, had just switched my major, and had major anxiety about how I was going to complete my degree in 4 years. I also had no idea what I wanted to do with my career or life after college. I think back to the day I walked into Dr. C’s office and I imagine that all of that anxiety kind of just blurted right out of me in that first conversation. Dr. C immediately assured me that it was all going to work out. She did not just say this though – she showed me. She took out my degree audit and started to make a plan with me for how I would accomplish my neuroscience degree in the next 2.5 years. She comforted me and showed me she believed in me from that first conversation. From then on, Dr. C never failed to provide me with all of the support I needed – not just in academics, but also in my general well-being. She always asked me how I was doing and took time to talk to me about my life. She keely anticipated how stresses of my personal life could impact my studies and helped me make tough decisions to switch or drop courses. She pushed me to try new things and sign up for that harder class. She helped me think about future career options and always emphasized the full picture of my education, reminding me that the day-to-day details of my coursework were adding up to something larger and much more meaningful. She empowered me as a leader and supported my extracurricular pursuits. She helped me realize my strengths and believe in myself again. Thank you, Dr. C!
Dr. C was a fantastic advisor and mentor for me. She encouraged me to explore outside of my major and find a career path that better merged my interests, rather than limiting myself to only the options I already knew about. She empowered me to forge my own path.
Dr. Campanaro was my college advisor, and she was an amazing resource to have throughout my experience. At each meeting, she was focused, organized, and committed to my personal and professional success. Thanks to Dr. C's planning and advising sessions, I was able to take full advantage of my time in college, earning a dual degree and setting myself up for veterinary school applications. I would highly recommend her as a professional asset and personable and fun person to interact with!
When I arrived at CMU, I held very strongly onto the belief that I was meant to become a doctor. I struggled a lot through my classes while suffering through depression and could never understand why, until Dr. C helped motivate me to figuring out where my true interests and heart lie. Her relentless support and unwavering conviction to help me succeed, not just as a student but as a human being, is one of the main reasons I ended up switching out of medicine into law. Since then my grades have shot up tremendously, having achieved Dean’s list twice. Dr. C truly does care for her students and will utilize every resource she has to ensure that you succeed, and you do it while maintaining your physical, emotional, and mental health. Without her, I would not be as successful as I am today!
Dr. C has been a tremendous help to me, both in my academic and personal life. She has guided me through my academic pursuits, including how to fit study abroad into my four-year university plan and how to select courses that best prepare me for my career goals. She has helped me realize that I need not fret about minute details such as a bad grade because by the end of my college career, all my efforts will have culminated in something greater and more meaningful. She has also supported me through some dark periods of my personal life by being a pillar of support and by making sure that my coursework is tailored to my unique needs. Dr. C sees each student as a human being and not just a conglomerate of grades and stress that needs appeasing. Speaking for myself and many of my classmates, we consider her our CMU mom and are forever grateful for her teachings.
As my advisor, Dr. Campanaro was invaluable to me throughout college. From the start, I was worried about taking the “right” classes and participating in the “right” extracurriculars that were typical for a neuroscience major on the pre-medical path. Dr. C. understood these concerns and helped me create an academic plan that fit my needs, but encouraged me to keep an open mind. When I was overwhelmed and struggling during my junior year, Dr. C advocated for me and helped me tailor my schedule to support my well-being. She encouraged me to explore my interests outside of my major and helped me find meaningful academic and professional opportunities. These experiences helped me expand my perspective and confirmed that I was on the right path. Dr. C supported me throughout my entire college career, and I am so grateful to have had her as my advisor.
